Hint #2
I like to go for a lot of walks and sometimes it's with the camera and sometimes it's not. (Shocking. I know! The funny thing is that it's usually at those camera-less times that I find the most interesting subjects!) As I was walking one Sunday morning, I saw this leaf and knew I just had to have it and take it home and give it "the studio treatment." I really like to keep things simple (Hint #2) so for me, the studio treatment is an art book that has white pages and another

Chris
I was really into the 100 strangers project. You know the one, where you walk up to a complete stranger and ask to take their picture and find out a little about them. Now, I would have put up all of the previous images onto this site however, my external hard drive had a heart attack and decided to die peacefully on me - so I feel like I'm starting fresh. So fresh in fact that I didn't even think to ask Chris about himself as it's been quite a while since I've done this sort

Hint #1
When taking photos of insects, whatever you do, don't block the light or the sun that is shining on them. When the light or sun disappears from where they are at rest, it generally means that a predator is after them! Take a moment or two to stand back and observe the direction the light is coming from and then plan where you can stand and get that photo you're after. Dolichopodid flies are particularly sensitive to the loss of light on them and they won't hang around to find

Providing A Food Source
It warms my heart when I see eaten leaves and flowers in my garden. It means that I've provided a food source for some insects that need it. In the image below, the Tibouchina flowers are being munched on by a Tussock Moth Caterpillar. Our gardens don't need to be "perfect" - there are plenty of leaves and flowers for both us and the insects to enjoy! Welcome!
I don't really say much.....I much prefer my images to do the chatting. Every now and then I will add a few words of my own to hopefully help and encourage any who wish to take up the challenging genre of macro photography.
